Kiwix is an open source project that provides offline copies of some of the world’s most important websites. Our lightweight wrapper connects it to a LoRes Mesh, so that users can see which website archives are stored at other nodes, and go fetch them in an emergency.

AI is a political issue, and not having a stance on it supports the big tech agenda. In the LoRes project, we’ve decided to focus on a few specific harms of AI, and focus on addressing them using the same solarpunk ethos that drives this project.

In developing the first LoRes Apps, we’ve found some common patterns that make development easier and packaged them up into a Rust crate called lores-app-node.

We’ve made a breaking change to the API that apps use to talk to lores-node, in order to better support each LoRes Node being part of multiple Regions. This change is a bit philosophical, so lets talk first about what a Region is, and why it supports good stewardship of the commons.

The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose is not compatible with a more nuanced view of humans being free from opporession. The LoRes Mesh project is changing to a software license that limits some uses, with the aim of better aligning our work with movements towards more liberatory futures.

We’ve just release an example chat app that demonstrates our new API for any web app to use the P2Panda node installed on our LoRes servers to talk to other instances of the app on other servers.
